Thanks to Google Services, the ownership of a Google account directly translates into many things. You automatically have a Google Drive, Google Play, Google+ and majorly in this context a YouTube account. Being a successful YouTuber is not a day job and has many similarities with being a blogger.
A Youtuber is a popular YouTube personality or celebrity who has gained fame through videos shared on the video sharing site YouTube.
I’m going to give you a brief list of popular YouTubers and the subscriptions on their channels so that we have a general idea of what we are aiming for.

These are the most popular of accounts. Now posting videos on YouTube maybe something you do for fun but people make hundreds and thousands per month from it. I’m going to show you what you need to be a successful YouTuber.
- You Don’t Need Initial Popularity to Begin
Before opening a YouTube channel and start posting, you should know that being a celebrity of a public figure is not a criteria for success. In my interactions with many people, I’ve found out that 70% of them think YouTube is only for popular people. They think it impossible for a normal YouTuber to get millions of views. Well, think again. You can post a video, give it the right publicity and exposure and build your viewers. Like I said, it has a lot in common with being a blogger.
With some ten thousand views, you can be making casual money with YouTube especially when you are monetizing it with Google Adsense.
- You Must Have a Target Audience
Your content must have a group of people that like such content. If you run a channel about computer tweaks and repairs your top viewers are likely to be computer mechanics, engineering students and tech savvy people with the occasional curious drop ins. If you don’t have a target audience, then your videos will hardly come up in searches, this spells disaster for your channel and videos.
- Post Videos That Will Keep Your Viewers Sitting
One more trick/tip for being a successful YouTuber is to make sure your contents are captivating and interesting to your target audience. I use target audience because you don’t expect someone interested in makeup channels to happily and comfortably watch your h@©king video. Post videos that will keep your audience glued to the screen.
Make sure your videos are short enough to grab attention but long enough to hold the attention till the very end.
- Identify With Your Channel
In becoming a successful YouTuber, your channel will become your identity. You may as well start identifying with it now. Tell people about it, feign view statistics if possible just to get them to visit. They may love your content and become subscribers. Make your videos show that you are a regular person like everyone and not someone way above their social strata. This is the tactic used by popular Nigerian YouTuber Mark Angel.
- EXPAND YOU PERSONAL INTERESTS…IN ORDER WORDS DON’T GET BORED
Before getting into YouTube publishing, you must promise yourself to continue. In the long run you are bound to get bored and when you get bored your channels and your viewers suffer the consequences. To avoid that, once in a while you give yourself a planned break and visit new places associated with your channel. Learn new things, you will find out that you come back refreshed.
These tips will help you become a very good YouTuber and make a living out of it. If you feel there are more we should know, drop it in the comments section. If you liked this post, do well to share using the share buttons.
